Builders of new houses at School Aycliffe have received complaints from local residents about the damage heavy lorries are causing to grass verges on the main road.

A reader sent in pictures which have been forwarded to Darlington County Councillor Gerald Lee who promises to take up the complaint.

Gerald said: “I will contact DBC/Millers to seek recompense from the company concerned. I organised a site meeting yesterday morning to discuss issues received from residents about the new housing site.

I met with the Site Manager and talked through a list of issues. My intention is to send Darlington Council and Millers Homes the minutes from my meeting and once agreed I will share them with the Newton News.

In the meantime one issue that hopefully can be resolved quite quickly is for all delivery lorries to come into site from the Heighington bypass so that the heavy vehicles do not need to drive through School Aycliffe.

This should reduce the number of heavy vehicles making the village much safer and quieter for all. The Site Manager can see no reason why this cannot be implemented but advice must be taken from his head office, DBC and the Police”.
