A team of super-fit cyclists in fancy dress will be getting in the saddle to raise money for charity.
They’ll be taking part in a three-hour cycle-a-thon which is being held as part of the build up to this year’s Pearl Izumi Tour Series.
The fundraising event will take place at Spennymoor Leisure Centre on Wednesday 27 May between 6pm and 9pm.
There will be 75 exercise bikes for participants to use and the event will be broken down into six themed half-hour sessions.
Helen Tones, physical activities co-ordinator at Durham County Council, said: “We’re inviting people to sign up for this event and help us raise money for the North East Autism Society and the Children’s Heart Unit Fund at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
“The whole event lasts for three hours but it is broken down into six 30-minute sessions, so people can do as many sessions as they want.
“It’s a great way to raise money for charity and get into the spirit of things ahead of the Durham round of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series.
“Fancy dress is optional and we will be awarding prizes for the best costumes.”
There’s no booking fee for the event but entry donations will be given to the two nominated charities.
To sign up or find out more people should contact Spennymoor Leisure Centre on 03000 261 161.
The Durham stage of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series will take place on Thursday 28 May when nine teams of professional cyclists, along with local guest team Achieve Northside Skinnergate, compete through the streets of Durham City.
Durham County Council is hosting the event, which is sponsored by Pearl Izumi and organised by Sweetspot.
