Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store were comfortably beaten by 48 runs at home to Stockton 1sts, who now sit proudly at the top of the NYSD 2nd division. The visitors were asked to bat first and were dismissed for 183 after 42.3 overs thanks mainly to a terrific spell of leg spin bowling by Patrick Howe (sponsored by Tom Steele), who finished with career best bowling figures of 7 for 35. In reply, acting captain Sam Telford got Aycliffe off to a flyer scoring a seasonal best 52 runs leaving his side well placed at 85 for 1. However Aycliffe disappointingly lost their remaining nine wickets for just 50 runs finishing on 135 all out after 44.2 overs with only Michael Howe’s 19 runs and an unbeaten 16 runs from Ryan Patrick offering any resistance. This match was sponsored by Upex.
