Aycliffe fielded a defensive formation but failed to trouble Dunston keeper Grant for the whole of the 90 minutes. It was a rearguard action throughout and the score was kept down by young keeper Jack McLaren who gained a Man of the Match performance by saving two penalties and making other good saves.

He saved the first penalty in the 19th minute, from Dunston centre-forward Kirkpatrick. Half-time 0-0. McLaren made a super save on 76 minutes, but he was beaten when Dunston scored from an Anderson penalty on 81 minutes.

James Oliver was sent off for a second caution for the foul. Anderson had another penalty four minutes later and this time McLaren saved his shot. Full time 0-1.
