Darlington striker Harvey Saunders has signed for League One club Fleetwood Town – only four years after playing local junior football.
Harvey, 21, has signed a two and a half year deal with Fleetwood – who are managed by former Manchester City and Newcastle midfielder – and will be loaned back to Quakers for the rest of the season.
Harvey played a lot of junior football in the South Durham area for Barnard Castle, and at one time stopped playing regularly.
But he was persuaded to play again by some of his friends, and he appeared for Darlington RA, Bishop Auckland and Durham City in the Northern League, before being snapped up by Darlington three seasons ago.
“Harvey has put a huge amount of work into his game over the last year,” said manager Tommy Wright. “He has shown a fantastic attitude in training – he is always wanting to do extra and learn more about his game. It just goes to show what you can achieve in football if you work hard.”
Harvey is the club’s second top scorer this season with seven goals.
