Following the festive break, some of Newton Aycliffe Youth’s football teams were back in action this weekend.

Newton Aycliffe Youth U10’s 4 v 1 Waldridge Park Denwick

Great performance on Saturday and good win with some good football. Special mention to James Know and Finley Garner who slotted in really well today and battled hard. A hat-trick from Jake and a goal from Will Houlahan settled this game. Jude did really well in goal. Man of the match on Saturday was Jake but all credit to Will who made some great through passes which Jake finished well.

Willington Youth Blues 5 v 2 Newton Aycliffe Youth U9’s Eagles

Tough game of football on Saturday against a very physical team who are top of the league and unbeaten this season. Our player’s didn’t have time to warm up properly due to an accident on the motorway delaying all players and the match started as soon as we had 7 players arrive. Despite this the Eagles started very well, however it did take a while for them to find their feet following the Christmas break and soon found themselves 3-0 down. Hamza found the back of the net twice with his first two goals for the team, very well done Hamza. The Eagles continued to try their best but couldn’t keep the ball and Willington managed to score another 2 very good goals making it 5-2. The Eagles battled hard until the final whistle but couldn’t get past the Willington defence. Makai and Ollie stepped up and took their turn in goal and did very well, thanks to them both for this. Proud of how they all played today we certainly gave Willington a shock. Back to training on Thursday to continue working on the excellent football they have been playing lately as a team. Players today were Makai, Nathan, Trystan, Adam, Will, Kai, Hamza, Liam and Ollie. Man of the match this week was Hamza for not only scoring 2 goals but for the effort he put in all over the pitch finding great space and applying pressure when needed. Well done Hamza and all the Eagles. Keep up the good work.

Newton Aycliffe Youth U18s 5 v 5 Bishop St Marys

Massive game this weekend for the under 18s away at local rivals and rivals for the league Bishop St Marys. Bishop started the better taking the lead after some poor defending. Danny Godfrey got us back level with a goal from distance. Bishop scored again from some poor defending. Ben Knights then levelled things up following some good pressure from Aycliffe.

Second half Bishop started the better and took the lead again. Aycliffe broke and a good cross was nodded in by Jay Bateman which was quickly followed by a 35 yard chip from Danny Godfry for Aycliffe to take the lead for the first time in the match. With 15 minutes to go Bishop drew level and then added their 5th to retake the lead. Aycliffe had the last say when Jay Bateman again headed home. Great game of youth football that both teams played their part in. Joy to watch and a massive well done to the under 18’s.
