Dear Editor.

Is it not time that the Labour group stopped trying to score points against one another, and start working together with the Independents for the good of the town and the people we all represent?

At the last By Election the residents of the West Ward would not have elected the Independent councillor if they did not want one.

On 12th May I was invited as the West Ward Independent councillor along with officers from Livin, Police two County Councillors and the newly elected Independent councillor to do a walk about in the Silverdale Area with Mrs D Bowman.

I found it was not as bad as it was made out to be on TV. I can remember some years ago, (and the people still living there will remember), that as the West Ward and Sedgefield Borough Councillor at the time, we had a similar walk about in the Silverdale area and a TV crew was out then.

As a result a number of skips were placed in some areas and the people worked very hard to tidy the place up,

There are some areas that need tiding up now so it would be a good idea to put the skips out again for a while, and if we all work together these problems can be resolved.

Comparing the two walk-abouts in the area over those years, in my own opinion, the area has improved!

I have been an elected Councillor for over 25 years and seen a lot of changes in the West Ward, but I do not like what is happening with the politics being as bad as it is now.

West Ward Independent Councillor
Alderman George Gray.
