A new bus lane and improved pedestrian crossings are amongst a programme of works to start in Croxdale next week (W/c October 29).

It’s all part of Durham County Council’s Transit 15 scheme which aims to make public transport more efficient and attractive to residents, reducing congestion on the roads.

Under the project the B6288 will be widened to allow for a new bus lane out of Croxdale on to the southbound A167. There will also be two new pedestrian crossing points introduced and the existing two relocated.

Works on the A167 will start next week during the school half term holidays and will continue into November. They will be carried out by the council’s in-house highways operations team.

Cllr Neil Foster, Cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: “Transit 15 is all about improving infrastructure and reducing delays, thus improving the reliability of buses along seven corridors into Durham City.

“I realise that there will be some inconvenience to people during the works but I hope everyone will bear with us and we will complete them as quickly as we can.”
