As the Easter weekend approaches and the weather is milder, myself, Denise and June have released most of our overwintered hedgehogs most of them have been released in our town. We would like to ask all readers and friends and families to PLEASE check for hedgehogs before you use any power tools, these precious mammals need our help to survive, also please take the time to leave a dish of water out for them, you would be surprised the amount of hedgehogs that come to me that are so dehydrated they need subcutaneous fluids to avoid imminent death. Please also make sure that if you have a pond or water feature make it safe if it isn’t already, hedgehogs are wonderful swimmers but sometimes they tire easily, can’t get out of your pond and drown.
Prickly Haven Hedgehog Rescue will be in the Leisure Centre on the 23rd of this month, I have some information leaflets, free key rings and I am also still selling raffle tickets, please support us. These gorgeous animals deserve our help, they will, in turn, keep your garden beautiful because they eat what you consider garden pests. I will answer all of your questions to the best of my ability.
In recent weeks I have been visiting Jorja’s Attic, thought it would be a good idea to obtain a skill other than Hedgehog Rescue, so I have made my first Luna Bunny, I will bring her to the Recreation Centre to show off, she has been carefully made by me with Susan and Linda’s guidance and expertise, thank you (making a squirrel now).
Tip of the Week: If you see a hedgehog out during the day there is something very wrong, please ring The British Hedgehog Preservation Society on 01584 890801. They have a list of rehabbers in the area, they will provide you with numbers.
