Following the huge success of The Bishop Auckland Street Food Market, produced by Social Enterprises, Baccanalia & Bridge Creative, 2024 promises an even grander affair as the food extravaganza expands its reach to towns across County Durham.
Excitement is brewing as Bishop Auckland, Aycliffe and Crook emerge as the first towns confirmed to host these vibrant markets, with discussions already underway for additional locations, including Shildon and Barnard Castle, later in the year.
Set to transform town centres, car parks, and market squares into culinary showcases, these events will boost local economies offering a platform to champion local produce and foster a sense of unity among residents. With a focus on supporting local businesses and artisans, these events are all about nurturing community spirit and showcasing the best of what County Durham has to offer.
Last year, Bishop Auckland’s Street Food Market drew between 3000 to 5000 attendees for each event, fostering cultural exchange and stimulating relationships between organisers, venues, locals and visitors alike in the Bishop Auckland area.
Acting as a cornerstone for local communities, Baccanalia’s street food markets will feature an array of delectable offerings from various traders, alongside local beers and ales on tap, live performances by talented local musicians, and family activities, all contributing to the festive ambiance. These events are sure to set the stage for summer 2024, leading up to the multitude of events County Durham has to offer.
Thomas Wales, Baccanalia, said “We’re so excited to bring our Street Food Market to Newton Aycliffe this year. I think everyone in the local community is ready for a jam-packed evening of culinary delights and fun entertainment. The event also gives us the opportunity to support adults with learning disabilities and autism to gain work experience. It’s an all-round winner.”
The following are the dates for Newton Aycliffe when there is expected to be up to twenty street vendors on Beveridge Way from 4.00pm to 9.00pm:
Friday 19th April Friday 17th May
