School Aycliffe’s 7 year old girl racer Scarlet Dunn had a race long battle for 3rd place at Wombwell in South Yorkshire this weekend in the Bambino Comer kart racing class.
Racing for the first time at the circuit, and as the only girl on the grid, Scarlet quickly got on the pace in free practice and took 3rd place in two heats and qualified in 3rd for the final in her Wright kart.
Although she slipped back to 4th at the start, she quickly closed the gap back down to 3rd and looked for a way past for several laps, but then unfortunately the 3rd place driver got caught in a tangle with a faster IAME kart causing Scarlet to take avoiding action and she dropped to 5th. Scarlet showed her pace to close the gap, setting the 3rd fastest time of the race and finished 5th by the chequered flag.
Scarlet really enjoyed racing at the circuit and wasn’t phased at all by the new challenges. She competes again at her local circuit Teesside Autodrome, Middlesbrough in two weeks time.
