Last weekend, a group of Woodham Academy students kicked the festive season off literally with a bang. Woodham Samba Band were in attendance at Neville Parade Church, to entertain the public as part of the annual Christmas Fayre.
The Samba Band rehearse regularly in school each week; however this was their first performance with their new line-up, including new Year 7 students who have just joined the Academy this year, as well as welcoming back a few friendly faces in the form of past students.
They performed two lively pieces ‘Samba Reggae’ and ‘Samba Funk’, before inviting members of the public to grab an instrument and join in! The challenge was accepted by children and adults alike, who were soon enough placed under the expert guidance of Alex Paterson (Y7), Owen Dickinson (Y10) and Charlotte Kirton (Y9) before another rousing performance to finish. Woodham Samba Band are now looking forward to their next performance, which will be in Woodham Christmas Concert on 11th December.
