The weekend of the 4th/5th November saw the Swim England North East Region short course championships take place at the impressive Ponds Forge International Swimming Centre in Sheffield. The region comprises of the North East, as we know it, and all of Yorkshire. Swimmers have to meet tough qualifying times which they try to set in local competitions throughout the year.
Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club swimmers Aviana Wilson and Niamh Welburn competed in three events each in the girls 12 and 14 years age groups respectively.
Aviana took on 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke over the two days, posting some good times. Niamh had qualified for all three backstroke distances and she beat PB in 50 and 100m and placed in the top ten over 200m.
Attention switches to qualifying for County Championships in February 2024, with local galas in December and January.
