Premier League Referee, Kevin Friend, will be guest speaker at a meeting of the Bishop Auckland Referees’ Association next month.Kevin, from Leicester, will be guest speaker on Thursday 15 October at the Association’s meeting at The Manor public house, Cornwall Road, Bishop Auckland, DL14 6UR at 7.30pm.
Terry Farley MBE, former top flight refereee from Aycliffe and now Secretary of Bishop Auckland Referees’ Association said: “We’re delighted that Kevin has found the time in his busy schedule as a top flight referee to come to Bishop Auckland for our meeting.
“I’d like to extend a welcome to anyone interested in football or refereeing to join us on 15 October and hear about Kevin’s career and his experiences officiating in one of the most exciting leagues in the world.”
Kevin took up refereeing as a 14-year-old and plied his trade in local football and Midlands leagues before he started to progress through the Football League pyramid. Prior to his appearance in the Barclays Premier League, he was regularly officiating in the Championship.
Alongside numerous high profile Barclays Premier League appointments, Friend’s most notable honours so far include the 2012 FA Community Shield between Manchester City and Chelsea and the 2013 Capital One Cup final between Swansea City and Bradford City.
