Dear Sir,

By now the Brexit fiasco will be well seen as in it’s death throws – strangled or possibly merely suffocated by our own politicians, a great many of whom, throughout, have consistently prioritised the pursuit of their own and/or their party political agendas ahead of all else. The honour of Parliament has been impugned, discredited and is now an illusion no longer to be trusted. A complete fiasco bringing my Country into ridicule and very largely to blame for creating or at the very least nurturing, friction and conflict within communities throughout the land. I question the sanity of anyone, anywhere, who rules out anything, while hard negotiations are still in progress. For 312 (312!) MP’s to rule out No Deal at this stage is unbelievable; an act of extreme folly. (I thought there were nearer 650 of them).

One of the most distressing results made public is the widespread refusal of our Elected Representatives to faithfully represent the democratic decisions of the very people who elected them; preferring instead to substitute their own thoughts, coloured by their own inclinations and personal opinions (and undoubtedly a bit of whipping). It is the undeniable, hard won right of everyone in this Country to have and express their own opinions. This applies no less to our MP’s. But, and it’s a very very big but, it is not acceptable that they allow those opinions to over-ride and ignore the democratic decision of the people they claim to represent – whether their constituency voted to Leave or Remain. They have a job to do, a promise to keep, a trust to fulfill. It is even worse when any of our elected Representatives use those positions of power and influence granted by us, to actively campaign against the decision of the the very electorate who gifted them that power and influence . . . for a very different purpose.

To my mind that is abuse.

I have therefore lodged a Petition, which has received the appropriate support, seeking to: “Retire all MP’s who fail to represent the democratic decisions of their Electors“.

Too brief certainly, but restricted in length by the rules – no less! Hopefully, and under the normal course of events, it will appear shortly under – www.HoCpetitions.parliament.uk/petitions – where it will be accessible to all – if they wish. There is still some element of democracy left for us all . . .

Yours faithfully

J D Whittaker
