Breathe Easy Darlington is celebrating a five figure funding award from the National Lottery Community Fund for its “Living well with respiratory Ill health” project.

Largely self- funded previously, this award means that Breathe Easy Darlington’s membership community, who all have chronic respiratory health conditions, can continue with weekly pulmonary rehabilitation classes for the next 12 months.

In addition, new beneficial classes in Yoga and singing, and more social outings will be added to the service on offer to those with respiratory ill health resident in Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire and County Durham.

Ann Boyd Secretary of Breathe Easy Darlington said:

“Like all voluntary organisations we are struggling with rising costs. Funding from the National Lottery Community Fund reduces the cost burden on our existing members and encourages new people with respiratory health conditions to join our group.

.

We are the only organisation outside of the NHS to offer pulmonary rehabilitation exercise classes, which have been proven to help control and reduce breathlessness, lowering GP visits and hospital admissions.

This is a benefit to many, and we thank everyone in the community who buys a lottery ticket and contributes to the funding available to organisations like us .It makes such a difference to living well with respiratory ill health . ”
