Christmas has come early for New College Durham students, thanks to HTS Supplies and tool manufacturer Paslode who have generously donated over £39,000 worth of equipment to the technology department.

Paslode, a leading manufacturer of cordless and pneumatic nailers, staplers and fasteners, has kindly supplied the site carpentry and joinery students with new nail guns. The company has already donated twenty-one first fix guns, worth £450 each, and will provide a further five in January so every first year site carpentry apprentice will own this tool. The students are going to give Paslode feedback on the nail guns and in return they will each receive a second fix gun in March 2020. Any students who work with joists will also receive a third nail gun at the end of their course.

Carpentry and Joinery Lecturer David Usher said: “We are delighted that Paslode is sponsoring our site carpentry students. The guns will be very useful for the students’ learning.  They received full training on how to use the guns so can now use them when they are receiving on the job training with their apprenticeship employers.”

The fabrication and welding students also benefited from an employer donation when Jason Hutchinson from HTS Supplies visited the College with ESAB Group’s Brian Rutherford. Jason has kindly offered to sponsor some new welding screens, valued at over £900.00 and ESAB donated two air fed welding helmets to the College.   The students were very impressed when they tried out the screens and the helmets.

Chris Dawson, Engineering/Technical & Professional Lecturer, said: “We are very grateful to HTS Welding Supplies and ESAB Group for their kind donation. The helmets feature a colour touch screen control panel and meet the new legislation for welder personal fume safety, so it is great for our students to experience this next generation technology.”
