Dear Sir,
I must reply, to the response by Councillor Brian Stephens who in your previous issue of Newton News states that the reason for changing the lighting in the Bluebell Park area is to “provide white light’ and that it is much better for CCTV systems.
I’m wondering which CCTV systems he has been looking at to verify this claim as I have CCTV at my property and I can categorically state that the new lighting DOES NOT in any way, shape or form enhance it.
It in fact diminishes the ability to see at night as you will note from the two images (one before the change and the other after), and increases the chances of people lurking around during the hours of darkness to commit crime! Let the people of Newton Aycliffe decide!
On a positive note, I would like to thank DCC for ‘getting into the spirit’ of darkening our streets for Halloween, but can we please have our old lighting back?
I also doubt we will see a reduction in our Council Tax for the supposed savings this will make for the Council?
Angry Council Tax Payer!
