The children at Woodham Burn out of School Club enjoyed a fun and informative visit from Gill and Andrea the owners of K9 Pursuits, a dog day care and training centre on Newton Aycliffe Business Park.
Gill and Andrea had prepared a fun filled session with lots of opportunities for the children to participate. They planned to teach the children the Safe and Sound Scheme this included how to approach a dog safely, what to do and not to do around a dog and what to do if a dog suddenly approaches you. The children were shown practical moves to keep themselves safe and practiced them throughout the session.
Gill and Andrea demonstrated how well trained their dogs are and how they can follow commands. The children took part in training the dogs; holding hoops, making a tunnel with their legs for the dogs to run through and holding poles for the dogs to jump over.
All the children were confident enough at the end of the session to run around the playing fields with the dogs, and all had a great time.
Each child received a special certificate showing that they had participated in K9 Pursuit’s activities.
A special thank you to Gill and Andrea for a great session, we will see you again soon and hope you like the cards and pictures we made you.
