Opening next week in our cabinets at Greenfield Community & Arts Centre is an exhibition of stunning jewellery by recent graduate Lyndsay Peters. Lyndsay studied at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen and regularly exhibits her work at Number 15 in Spennymoor.

Lyndsay is inspired by both traditional and contemporary concepts relating to the jewel as a form of adornment, where the wearer, maker and viewer have a significant connection in interpreting the piece. She finds this relationship fascinating as a way of evoking memories, conveying sentiment and as an expression of identity.

She creates pieces that can challenge our perceptions of the jewel, perhaps being unconventional in the way that they are worn. These objects can then be given new meaning by the wearer while remaining fun and enjoyable to wear, therefore creating a sense of attachment.

This fantastic exhibition opens on Wednesday 15th August, and will finish on Friday 7th September. Greenfield Community & Arts Centre is open Monday to Thursday 10am to 9pm, and Friday 10am to 4pm.
