The Chestnut Housing Estate has always looked well but with the passage of time and the maturity of the gardens and surrounding woodland the Estate is outstanding.Residents are understandably proud of where they live and when vandalism occurs they are quick to report it. Such vandalism has occurred in a sheltered wooded area beyond the end of Cherrytree Drive.
A group of youths have been camping out over the last days of August, lit a large open fire, left litter all over the area and by the bottles lying around they have been drinking alcohol. Tree trunks have been snapped and bushes damaged.
This combination is an accident waiting to happen so it is important parents know where their offspring are and  where they doing. We know that there were a few girls present and they left the site on September 1st and having been so close to a large fire their clothes would have smelt of smoke.
Please think back and ask where your child was because  the Police have been informed and one of them could come knocking on your door….

Parents Parking
Not too long ago a car was written off when the driver had to drive down on the wrong side of the road from Heighington Primary down to the bypass. The accident was caused by parents parking their cars up to the brow of a hill leaving drivers with no choice but to drive on the wrong side of the road towards possible oncoming vehicles when they are leaving the village and heading north.
There have been many near misses and despite my letters in Newton News asking parents not to park on this stretch of road they continue to do so. It is for that reason that in the future double “No Parking” lines will be painted along this road. At the same time the existing yellow lines from the bus stop on Redworth Road to the end of the school sports field fence, will be removed. The area will be patrolled from time to time so if our Enforcement Officers find you parked illegally you will be fined.
There will also be a slight change in front of the school main gate where no parking lines will be painted on the road leading right up to the school gate.
I accept that parking is not easy around the school and most schools have the same problem.
The School Charter developed some years ago by parents of the day helps to increase the safety of all – if ALL parents abide by its recommendations
