Heighington Whites 6 v Brompton Juniors 3
The lads started very well today, pressed Brompton high up the pitch and fought for every ball over the field. The early pressure paid off for us and we soon found ourselves 1-0 up. The lads didn’t stop and the second and third goal came soon afterwards. Unfortunately, Brompton pulled one back just before half time after a soft penalty kick which Theo was unlucky not to save. At half time I told the lads to keep battling and they worked very hard to keep the momentum going and not long after it was 5-1 to us. Brompton were then awarded a second penalty of the game which thankfully hit the post and went out. Brompton kept going and managed to pull back another goal before we made 6-2 with minutes to play but once again Brompton scored to make it 6-3 in the end. The whole team really turned up today and played for each other which was great to see. Great game to watch, thank you to everyone for the support today.
Goals: Will Moffat 2, Noah Myres 2, Cruz Denton 1, Arthur Shotton 1.
MOTM: Will Moffat scored two goals, never stopped all game, was all over the pitch winning the ball back and playing it forward, great game from the young man.
New Herrington U11 2 v Heighington U11 3
The Heighington boys had to dig deep today and pulled off a remarkable comeback against a very good Herrington side. Heighington played well and created chances but just couldn’t seem to find the net. However, they found themselves 2-0 down at half time after conceding during 2 set pieces. A deflected free kick and a great headed corner.
The 2nd half was a test of character as the boys picked themselves up and kept their attitudes and approach right. They passed the test perfectly, finding themselves level 10 minutes into the second half, courtesy of two well worked team goals, both executed by Bruno Clack.
The game went back and forth with both teams pushing for the win and creating chances. Late in the match it seemed a draw was on the cards until Jack Collingwood picked up a loose ball in the box and sailed a delightful shot into the top bins of the opposition goal. The final whistle blew 2 minutes later and the lads knew they had played a second half they can be proud of. They showed great belief in themselves today and kept pushing when the chips were down, incredible match for spectators
Managers MOTM: Whole team, they never once thought they were beat, the half time team talk took care of itself. All boys getting behind each other and full of belief. Positive attitudes going into second half.
Coaches MOTM: Lucas Faulkner, a great threat from the left all morning, battled for everything and encouraged his team when they needed him most. Was a great outlet and assists galore.
