Woodham Academy’s resident chef, Linda Vipond, spent the day with groups of Year 7 pupils making healthy lunchboxes.

The purpose of the sessions was to consider a healthy diet and lifestyle when choosing items for lunchboxes.

The students worked together in groups to identify healthy products that could be a part of a healthy lunchbox. They discussed the different food groups and the nutritional values when choosing foods from each group.

The groups were set a task to prepare and display a healthy lunchbox and ensure something from each food group was included in the lunchbox. A display of bright and colourful foods with different tastes and textures were available to use.

The lunchboxes included items such as, wraps, bagels, wholegrain bread, pitta pockets, fruit salads, pasta salad, vegetable sticks, and cherry tomatoes with a dip.

The fun bit was that the groups got to eat their healthy creation. Many students said that they would try some of the items at home especially the wraps with different filling and bagels, which seem to be the current popular choice.

It was a very enjoyable session and a pleasure to see that students will consider a healthier choice after tasting new foods.
