The ICAN 2021 group from Greenfield Community College and Subject Specialist, Mrs Best, have enjoyed working alongside Joanne Ashworth, from Groundwork, engaging in a valuable project relating to mental health issues in our community.

The group explored mental health issues and support available in our community, they met David from ManHealth and learnt about the organisation and the services it provides. A member of the ICAN group said “It was really great that David took the time to visit us so that we could find out so much about this support in our community”.

Following extensive research and interviews the group decided to offer support to their school by producing resources for discussion around mental health, designing a leaflet and providing a helpful power-point presentation. They produced gift bags for the CAHMS waiting room which included sweet treats, pens and pencils, a note pad and an emoji sheet.

The group visited CAMHS in Newton Aycliffe to find out more and to present the gift bags, the team were very appreciative. “The CAMHS team were really good at explaining to us what they do” said a student from the group.

Greenfield Community College are committed to a broad and balanced curriculum that includes opportunities to learn from an extended learning programme. Well done to all of those involved for their positive contribution to the community and a willingness to find out more about important issues surrounding mental health.
