Students from Greenfield Community College have been offered valuable opportunities to experience live theatre as part of their extended learning experience.

Performing Arts students from Year 10 and 11 were able to see a production of ‘The Woman in Black’. The hit West End production is renowned for being very scary as an atmospheric but brilliantly executed drama. The students joined staff for a pre-theatre meal, a chance to meet in a relaxed environment and experience a quality live performance at The Hippodrome, Darlington.

Students from Greenfield have also been excited to perform themselves as they took to the stage in ‘A Night of Music’. An enthusiastic audience were entertained by a wonderful show with students displaying their musical talents and working together with Greenfield staff to bring about a great performance enjoyed by all. “The show was a monumental success and the students all made me very proud to work here at Greenfield. They really showcased the immense talent we have and how strong the performing arts is here at our school” said Mr Gomez-Gil, Subject Leader in Performing Arts.

Students have also been busy out in the community recently giving their time and sharing their musical abilities with others. The choir performed at the Rose Lodge Care Home which was much appreciated by the residents and have also taken part in the annual Rotary Club community Christmas concert held at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.

Students are looking forward to further opportunities in 2020 with a planned trip to see I Think We’re Alone at Northern Stage and a visit to Durham Gala to see Kathy and of course next year’s now infamous annual production! This year ‘Grease is the word’, we are looking forward to seeing another brilliant show, students are already busy rehearsing for this American musical classic.
