NORTH EAST residents are set to benefit from more energy efficient homes this winter as the UK’s largest energy efficiency initiative offers 50 free home energy efficiency assessments for the Government-backed Green Deal scheme to those living in Durham.
To mark the start of the NEW YEAR, Warm Up North, which is endorsed by nine North East councils including Durham County Council, is offering 50 households in Durham a free no obligation custom Green Deal Assessment to find out how they could make their homes more energy efficient.
Available on a first-come first-served basis, the complimentary Green Deal assessments, which would usually cost £99 each, will offer homeowners expert impartial advice from a certified Green Deal Assessor along with tailored recommendations to help increase the energy efficiency of their home.
Following an assessment, residents are able to choose whether or not they want to implement the advice and arrange the installation of recommended measures. If they choose to proceed, Warm Up North will be happy to help arrange any required work, including boiler replacement, cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation, heating systems, loft insulation and PV solar panels – all of which are installed by local Green Deal approved companies.
Warm Up North also offers flexibility in how installations are paid for, including access to Green Deal Finance which enables qualifying households to repay the cost of the work through the savings made on their energy bills, eliminating any upfront payments.
The key benefit of Green Deal is that you not only get energy efficiency advice tailored specifically to your home and lifestyle, but you could also use Green Deal Finance to pay for the improvements without paying any upfront cost.  You may even get some additional cash back through the government’s Green Deal Cash Back offer.
Cllr Neil Foster, cabinet member for economic regeneration at Durham County Council, added: “The Warm Up North project is already helping households across County Durham to lower their fuel bills by making their homes more energy efficient. These free home assessments to see how people could benefit from the scheme are available on a first-come first-served basis so it is important that people get in touch as early as possible.”
