Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team sponsored by Franks put in a below par performance when they were easily beaten by 6 wickets at home to Middlesbrough 2nd XI in the 3rd division of the NYSD league. Electing to bat first Aycliffe were bowled out for just 167 after 44.5 overs despite good innings from Matt Atkinson (35 runs), Graham Telford (27 runs) and an unbeaten 17 from Colin Myers.
The visitors romped to victory after only 30.4 overs, despite some excellent fast bowling from Matty Atkinson, who finished his 10 over spell with 2 wickets for 32 runs. The defeat sees Aycliffe knocked off top spot in the 2nd division table, but still well placed to push for promotion in the 2nd half of the season.
The 2nd team had an exciting 2 wicket victory away at Bedale in the NYSD 3rd division. Being asked to bowl first proved beneficial for Aycliffe as captain Adam Gittins took 4 wickets for 31 runs and two wickets for both Patrick Howe and Neil Bancroft helped skittle the homeside for just 126 runs after 39 overs.
All rounder Gittins capped a fine display by top scoring with 37 and with excellent support from Neil Bancroft (32 runs) and an unbeaten 17 from Tom Wickins. Aycliffe made it home to victory in a tense finish after a marathon 56.3 overs.
The 2nd team’s fourth win of the season cements their mid table position with a highly creditable 137 points from their 14 games, which is 4 more points than they earned during the whole of last season.
The under 18’s were unlucky to lose a tense game by just 8 runs at home to Langley Park. Batting first the visitors scored 101 for 6 in their 20 overs, with Aycliffe’s Patrick Howe taking 3 for 23. In reply an excellent innings of 31 from opener Ben Nicholson got Aycliffe off to a good start, but wickets fell at regular intervals.
Sam Dobinson steadied the ship with 15 runs and a fighting unbeaten 13 runs at the end from 13 year old Dylan Tribley was in vain as Aycliffe were bowled out for 93 with one over remaining.
Newton Aycliffe’s u13’s had an excellent win at home to Darlington RA by 36 runs. After being asked to bat first Aycliffe scored 118 for 8 in their 20 overs with Adam Lamb and Lucas Pilling both scoring 20 runs and Jack Lowery also batted well scoring 18 runs. In reply Darlington RA were restricted to 82 for 6 in their 20 overs with the highlight being a hat-trick taken by Aycliffe’s James Knowlson as he finished with the excellent figures of 3 for 6 and Keiran Shingler chipped in with a couple of wickets.
The under 11’s team had a fantastic 40 run victory at home to Norton in the NYACC league. All the players played their part in a superb all round team effort and the victorious team, with coaches Joe Haines and Michael Howe are: Back row, Joe Bowsher (wicket keeper), Lucas Pilling (captain), Francis Humble, Cameron Jennings and Keiran Shingler.
