Eon, the energy company wanting to erect the largest wind farm in Co Durham on Newton Aycliffe’s doorstep are changing their strategy in pursuance of planning permission.

No longer are they going direct to the Secretary of State, but instead are taking the normal planning procedure route through the County Council.

This could be a clever move as they can expect a refusal from the Council from which they would then go to appeal. The application would land on the Inspectorate’s desk and perhaps a quicker and favourable decision is expected..

Eon have made some minor alterations to the plan following their consultation, but their is still 24 turbines towering as high as 126 metres.

The company are also looking at concerns around noise, traffic and the effect on the local environment and it is possible some of the turbine locations will need to be changed. The application will be submitted in early 2014, but there will be another public event to show the final layout.
