Helen Lynch, Durham County Council’s head of legal and democratic services, said: “We made every effort to ensure electors received their poll cards in a timely manner and were not disadvantaged by potential disruption from postal strikes.
“Poll cards were issued early on 23 August and mailed first class to ensure speedy delivery. Considering additional strikes, postal vote packs were also mailed early on 1 September with a letter reminding electors of the strike dates and encouraging postal packs to be returned as soon as possible. Electors were also reminded that postal packs can be handed in at their local polling station on the day of election.
“Electors do not need to wait for an election or to receive a poll card to register for a postal vote. Anyone wishing to register for a postal vote for future elections can download a form at www.durham.gov.uk/postalvote or contact electoralservices@durham.gov.uk to request one.”
