Dear Sir
I wish to start a new “Caring Friends” group as part of New Friends – New Places, a charity started in 2008. Over the next few weeks I hope to try and visit some of our lonely housebound Senior Citizens and distribute some of the shawls that have been knitted.
I know this will be a difficult task but I am sure it will be worthwhile. At present I have five volunteers to help and would like more.
These people will have a Disclosure and Barring Certificate to ensure they are fit and proper people to visit elderly residents. As a group we hope to be able to bring these residents by car to our Community House for coffee and a chat free of charge or maybe a low cost lunch and a game of Bingo.
If the elderly residents do not wish to come out of their homes we will sit and have a chat with them. Loneliness, day after day, especially during the long cold days of winter is a difficult position to be in and most times through no fault of their own. Reasons such as family moved away, moving into the area, retiring from work, illness, etc. We should all become “Good Neighbours” and if you know of anyone who could be lonely please give me a ring.
