Three by-elections for Great Aycliffe Town Council took place on Thursday 9th December following the deaths of Cllr Brian Hall, Cllr David Hardaker and the resignation of Cllr John D Clare.

Liberal Democrat – 249 Elected
Kane Shaw, Labour – 162
John Woodward,
Liberal Democrat – 275 Elected
Turnout 13%
Simpasture Ward (1 seat)
Andrew Hill, Independent – 167 Elected
Simon Hocking, Labour – 123
Turnout 23%
The balance on the Town Council now is:
Independents 13 (up 1), Lib Dems 7 (up 2), Labour 10 (down 3).
Since the elections in May, the Independents and Liberal Democrats on Great Aycliffe Town Council have been working in close co-operation and partnership and this seems to have gone down well in the by-elections.
