Do you want to tell your children you’ve helped build a G5? Come to our Grand Open Day and see how you can be part of building a North Eastern Legend.

On Saturday 4th May at Rail Restorations, Shildon you are invited to see how a classic G5 steam locomotive is built. We are hoping to unveil one of the 5 foot driving wheels that has been cast and machined.

This is no restoration project; she is being built from scratch using the original engineer’s drawings. These 0-4-4 Class G5 steam locomotives were last seen in 1958 and none were preserved for future generations to enjoy.

A group of local train enthusiasts have so far funded the boiler, chassis, bogie, 4 driving wheels, built the cab and lots more.

This is your chance to join in with the building of the loco: become a Friend of the G5 for only £10, annual membership, or £50 for life membership. How about sponsoring a component and having your name on the Roll of Honour?

Grand Open Day: 10am till 2pm on Saturday 4th May at Rail Restorations North East Ltd, Unit 8A, Hackworth Industrial Park, Shildon. Free admission. Light refreshments and merchandise available.

Open days thereafter, first Saturday in the month till October.
