St Anne’s Church has a wonderful exhibition based on the theme Blooming in Unexpected Places. This is an exhibition of photographic art responding to Flowers and Blooms that surprise by their resilience, beauty, and inspiration against the odds in unexpected circumstances and environments.
This exhibition is especially poignant as it is led by Hope Simpson, an outstanding photographer who despite her disabilities inspires many others and who herself has recently won the Grow Wild grant, a national competitive award from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
There will also be displays from St John’s R.C. School and Sixth Form College; Buddies Nursery in Bishop Auckland; and Bishop and Coundon in Bloom.

The Auckland Project is also hosting a community art event at No 42. Featuring extravagant floral arrangements created by teams from the Auckland Project and local Churches. The foliage and flowers used will all be from the generosity of local allotments holders, gardeners, and also donated by local supermarkets
Plus there will be a live art installation in response to these arrangements by local artist Jayne Johnson and art students from St John’s R.C. School and Sixth Form College.
This unique commissioned painting by Jayne Johnson will be put on sale when it is completed to raise funds for the Mayor’s Charity, which is Woodhouse Close Community Church and Hub.
David Fleming will also be visiting No.42 at 12 noon to meet Jayne Johnson and to view the commissioned painting during creation
Local artist Gillian Arnold has also been working with children from Etherley Lane Primary School and together they have created a deckchair cover featuring designs, drawings and artwork. This one of a kind piece of useable art will also be at No 42.
This event begins on Saturday 29 September at 10am until 4pm.
The Rev’d Eileen Harrop, who has organised these events bringing together many partners and individuals, says: “These events showcase the evidence of generations young and old coming together that justifies our Faith in our Future. This future is being made and developed by volunteers and young people who believe in using their talents and expertise, and who are taking ownership for our future together.  We have cause to celebrate!”
