Newtonian girl soldier, Zanna Bateman is one of eight chosen from the King’s Troop to carry the Union Jack and Olympic flag at the opening of the Olympic Games.

Zanna now 27 attended Sugar Hill and Woodham Comprehensive before joinng the Army in 2005. She served in the Royal Signals in Afghansitan and was featured in a T.V. Documentary “Girls on the Front Line”.

Zanna who has been involved with horses all her life, will be engaged in Army equestrian duties throughout the Olympics. She is based in London and was very pleased to text her family with the news. They are all so proud and wish her well while looking forward to seeing her on T.V. and when she comes home on leave in September.
