Seaham Coast 3 v Newton Aycliffe Women 6
The game started with Aycliffe on the front foot, but they couldn’t pick out the right pass, Seaham were growing into the game and came close, but Courtney Wilson pulled off a stunning save. Shortly after Aycliffe capitalised on one of their chances, Katie B played an inch perfect through ball for Kate Williams, with the keeper coming to meet the ball Kate calmly tapped the ball past and into the bottom corner, 0-1. Kate then returned the favour, a through ball for Katie Laura Bragg, who despatched a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner 0-2. Seaham then equalised with a stunning strike, 1-2. Katie then got her second, this time assisted by Amber, firing the ball across the keeper into the far corner from a tight angle, 1-3 HT. Second half and a change of shape, the next goal was always going to be important and it came straight after the break. Katie rounding off her hat trick in style, Morgan Bennett playing the ball wide right, Katie with a carbon copy goal this time across the keeper and in off the post, 1-4. Katie then turned provider again, playing a ball over the top, Kate took the ball well in her stride and finished whilst holding off the defender to make it two for her and five for Aycliffe, 1-5. Seaham then got one back, 2-5. Aycliffe weren’t finished yet, a few chances came and went before they got their 6th and it was Amber Dobson that got it. A free kick on the edge of the box taken by Annabelle was saved by the keeper, but Amber was quickest to react and fired home the rebound, 2-6. Just before the final whistle a rare mix up at the back let Seaham in to get their third of the game, final score 3-6.
Player of the match today went to Symone Noonan, faultless today at the back and although did not directly assist, two goals today came from her breaking up play at the back and driving out with the ball. Thank you to the Away kit sponsor AngloTech Group.
i2i International Soccer Academy 4
v Newton Aycliffe Youth Seniors 1
This was the first of four games the seniors would play in the following nine days and resulted in their first league defeat of the season. The lads got off to a good start when, in the 16th minute, Corbyn Mitchell is brought down in the box and a penalty is awarded. He gets up and converts, finding the top corner. However, three minutes later, i2i breakaway to equalise. Then two goals from i2i, one a contentious penalty, before half time was always going to be difficult to recover from, HT 3-1. Aycliffe had chances in the second half, but it was the home team who scored, FT 4-1. Not a great performance from the lads but they have games coming up, thick and fast, that will define their season.
