Sedgefield School Sport partnership organised three hugely successful dance festivals at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre attracting over 600 children from 26 schools across the Sedgefield area.

Local schools who performed included Vane Road, Sugar Hill, Aycliffe Village, St Joseph’s, Greenfield, Horndale Infants, Stephenson Way, Thornhill and Timothy Hackworth

The children danced and clapped until they dropped and the atmosphere was so contagious that the crowd of mums, dads and grandparents were joining in on the balcony.

The children and young people had been practising hard at school in order to perform to a large audience – they were nervous but very excited too! We were lucky enough to see dances from 4 year olds, right through the ages to 16 year olds and a range of genres including: street, freestyle, country dancing, a Maori war dance, contemporary and ballroom. All the children and crowd enjoyed a mass warm up led by the irrepressible Maxine from Durham County Council that got the events off to a great start and then it was one brilliant dance after another amid loads of applause.

Great fun for all!
