The Lower Eden Valley walk, Lazonby to Wetheral, took club members to a new area and many wondered why the gently rolling countryside beside the River Eden, north of Penrith and west of the northern Pennines, had not been visited by the club before!
An additional coach had to be laid on for the trip; such was the enthusiasm amongst members for the outing. Their enthusiasm further increased during the walk, as there was much to see and do. The weather was warm, bright and sunny!
Wetheral, popularised during the 19th century by leading industrialists when national railway links were completed, provided essential nourishment for thirsty walkers at the end of the walk.
In particular the bar at the Wheatsheaf Inn was buzzing, “busier than has been seen in many a year” exclaimed a local resident!
