On Friday 22nd March the Phoenix Club played host to a very special fundraising event in aid of the Mayor’s chosen charitable group All Disabilities Matter. The Mayor and Mayoress were in attendance to enjoy what can only be described as an energy filled and entertaining variety performance.
The town’s very own award winning Pipe Band kicked off the celebrations, and the Auckland Shanty Singers were there in strength to provide a colourful visual treat and a rowsing vocal stage performance. The Durham Ox Karaoke Singers brought their own style of music to the stage and, not to be outdone, All Disabilities Matter members Ava and Jeffery took to the stage to show how it should be done.
In recognition of the work All Disabilities Matter do in the community, the Mayor had great pleasure in presenting the very surprised and shocked recipients with the Around Town Radio Show Community Award. A very special presentation was also made by the Mayor to the parents of Jonathan Beddard with the All Disabilities Matter-Around Town Jonathan Beddard Memorial Award. In recognition of Jonathan’s involvement and contribution to the group, this annual special achievement award will be presented to a nominated recipient.
The night was a resounding success but it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the management and staff of the Phoenix Club, with our special thanks to Tracy from T & M Kitchen for the excellent catering, and Dave, the entertainment manager, who did a fantastic job comparing the whole event.
