Acorn commenced their summer trips with a wonderful adventure to Whitby in search of Goth gathering weekend.
When the weather is great in our beautiful northeast, it is a fantastic time to head for the coast and there is nowhere more amazing for an adventure than Whitby for the Goth festival.
Fifty two excited passengers boarded the coach from the Phoenix Club at 9am. Families with children looking forward to the seaside, fish and chips, beach, pleasure arcades, sweet shops and, of course, those fantastic Goth costumes. It’s not just families on these trips, we have pensioners and singles who love to come along too.
For many the first stop was Wetherspoons for a breakfast and coffee which wouldn’t break the bank then off to explore the narrow-cobbled streets in search of treasure like Whitby jet.
Whitby has a large array of shops not available in Newton Aycliffe and whilst perusing these it was great to bump into fellow travellers and pause for a chat.
A fleeting thought crossed my mind to climb the steps to the Abbey, thankfully it passed swiftly and we decided to alight for a while in the Duke of York hostelry for lunch and a well-earned libation before checking out the indoor market and moving ever so slowly on.
The shops seemed to be packed with Gothic clothing and accessories doing brisk business throughout the day
It was a super day out and served as a welcome distraction from electioneering and the political whirlwind back home. The whole trip was an absolute pleasure and we can’t wait to do it all again.
