Born is Scarva, County Down, Northern Ireland, Margaret married Husband Norman on 1st May 1946 and had two children, Brian and Eileen, who were both born in Ireland.
Norman passed away in 1975, aged 55 years after working as a plasterer for Aycliffe Development Corporation and later employed by UMM. Peggy was manager of Crookston & Royals Lighting manufacturer on Aycliffe Business Park, then manager of Home Lighting – DLT.
After moving to Newton Aycliffe in 1955, Peggy and Norman lived in the same house. Peggy is a qualified butcher and won a place at an agricultural college, but, due to her fathers ill health, took on the role of running the family butcher shop in Ireland.
Peggy’s secret to a long life is to work hard, love your family and friends and have determination for what you desire.
Margaret is currently a resident of St. Clare’s Court care home who will be throwing a party for her on Saturday 19th April, her 103rd birthday.
