Taking advantage of the fantastic weather, ACORN Community Association travelled to Hexham on Saturday 10th May. Only an hour or so away, but centuries of historic difference with its famous Abbey, interesting Gaol and Correction House, there seems to be a never-ending supply of things to do in this charming little Northumberland town.
As we arrived, we were greeted by glorious sunshine, a vibrant farmers market and a whole host of small shops to peruse. Of course, our regular travellers made straight to the old cinema, which is home to Wetherspoons, for an early cooked breakfast before the exploration began.
As my wife and I toured the town it was pleasant to see many of our fellow travellers taking advantage of the numerous coffee shops and it was lovely to take time for a chat with them. At the rear of the Abbey the bowling green was magnificent in the way it is cared for with floral displays seemingly everywhere. The lovely building overlooking the bowling green sat majestic, displaying an ancient Wisteria along its front wall.
I am informed that the building itself had been dilapidated until purchased by the council who refurbished it and are now renting it out to local services and the registry office. What a wonderful backdrop for a wedding.
Time flies and the day passed very quickly, but I noticed many carrier bags taken onto the coach and even a superb birthday cake being carefully transported in its box. Another triumphant trip with ACORN Community Association.
I had a blue jacket handed in by the driver, if anyone wants to claim it give me a ring.
