County Durham children are being asked to provide their favourite photographs capturing life in 2014 for future generations.
Durham County Record Office is holding its sixth annual family fun day to give families the chance to take a look at the county’s archives and find out more about the history and heritage of County Durham.
This year the theme is photography and children are being invited to bring along up to three photographs to be preserved in the collections so that future generations can see what life was like in 2014. The pictures can be of anything which a child feels highlights what life is like today, this could be places, people or toys for example.
Dawn Layland, education and outreach archivist with Durham County Council, said: “Photos are a fantastic way to explore the past. Even young children can have fun looking at how different clothes and cars used to be.”
A selection of old toys and outfits will be available for dressing up and little ones will also be given the chance to have a go at making a pinhole camera as well as trying their hand at historic jigsaws.  Tours of the strong rooms, where the archives are housed, will also be available.
The fun takes place on Friday, May 30 between 9.30am and 12.30pm. Admission is free and no booking is required but children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Durham County Record Office is part of Durham County Council and is located at County Hall in Durham.
