Local cycling group VC167 have celebrated their 25th Anniversary since the formation of the club. To mark the momentous occasion many members travelled far and wide to attend a dinner dance at Blackwell Grange, Darlington on 20th October 2018.
The VC167 was formed in 1993, and was known as Velo Club 167.
It’s six founder members had a vision that like-minded cyclists in the Darlington and Aycliffe area could meet to ride together. Regularly meeting along the A167, it seemed appropriate to name the club VC167!
This well established club has over 180 members spanning a wide geographical area; from Tyneside, through most of Yorkshire, Lancashire & Scotland. There are many members who have achieved National recognition for their cycling achievements over the years. One lady member, Anne Young, has gained a national award for doing the most 125 miler rides this season, a grand total of over 15000 miles in one year.
VC167 caters for a variety of ages and abilities. This year the club organised Coast to Coast in a day with nearly 30 riders aged between 12 and 75yrs old. They regularly have 15 to 20 riders in calendar Audax events across the UK. VC167 regularly have 20 + riders in PBP (Paris – Brest – Paris) 1200km (750 mile) in 90 hrs max time which is taking place 2019. Not just a long distance cycling club, VC167 members enjoy 10 mile time trials during the summer months.
Many VC167 members give their own time for the future development of cycling. They organise cycling events throughout the year, many of which require marshals throughout the night at feed and sleep stations!
