The Durham Tigers Rugby League will be holding its first coaching forum on Monday 6th December at 7pm. New and existing club coaches of both genders, who are interested in taking up rugby coaching, are welcome to attend our initial forum meeting at the Sunnydale Leisure Centre, Shildon.

The main focus of the forum will be to make coaching appointments for the 2013 season and to choose a coaching co-ordinator. The Tigers hope to have teams entered into every league between Under 12’s and open age (16+) next season as well as introducing a Girls Rugby League team into the club.

The Tigers will have to recruit and train several new coaches and volunteers to reach their target. Club Secretary Phil Selby said “We recognise we need high quality coaches, not just in the professional game but also in community clubs such as the Tigers so that young players can gain skills and experience and have their talent nurtured. Poor coaching at this level ruins potential. The Tigers are determined that all players at the Club will be coached correctly from the very beginning so, they can progress to the professional game if they wish.”

The Durham Tigers have been based at Sunnydale Leisure Centre in Shildon since 2010, and aim to use rugby to provide a hobby for local people of all ages and to help the community by giving young people a focus.

They hold weekly training sessions and are always keen to recruit new players: On Tuesday evenings they provide training for: their open age (16+) team between 6:30 and 8pm and their Under 14’s team between 6 and 7:30pm. Also, on Saturdays, between 10 and 11.30am they provide training for their 2 junior teams:

The under 9’s and 11’s and the under 13’s. They also hold a weekly touch rugby session which is a non contact form of the game and that will be held every Friday between 6- 7.30pm. If you wish to join any of these sessions the club welcome you to come along.
