Football fans are being asked to help give their team’s ground a mini-makeover this summer as they prepare for the new season.
Newton Aycliffe, who finished ninth in the Northern League first division last season are busy giving their impressive Moore Lane Park ground the once-over as they get ready for the new season. Saturday 30th June is the official “spruce up day” to get the ground up to scratch.
Aycliffe Sports Club have invested almost £2,000 treating the playing surface which is known as one of the best pitches in the league. Aycliffe are now gearing up for their big pre-season friendly with Premier League neighbours Sunderland on Friday 20th July (7.30pm kick-off).
They’re hoping their “spruce up day” from 9am through to the afternoon, will help get various odd-jobs finished.
Fans are asked to report to Moore Lane Park any time after 9am – complimentary bacon sandwiches and refreshments will be provided.
Aycliffe will offer some of the cheapest admission in the Northern League first division next season after freezing their ticket prices for 2012-13. Admission: £5 adults and £3 concessions while most clubs in the league increasing theirs to £6 and £4.
Farley said: “You could argue, if we want to compete with the top six of the Northern League first division, then we have to match their ticket prices so we can compete with their budgets. But we don’t want to jump too far, too soon, and we’re proud of the fact that we have one of the highest average attendances in the league, despite being one of the youngest clubs.
Season ticket prices for 2012-13 have been set at £90 adults and £50 concessions. Details of how to get them will be announced as soon as possible.
