Five of the most able Year 10 students from Woodham Academy were invited to attend an information session about applying to Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Students were given an insight into the entry requirements and opportunities available as an undergraduate student. This was an interesting and informative session, which also provided them with an opportunity to talk to current students from the universities.
Corin Lathan, who is currently on track to achieve outstanding grades at GCSE, commented “the visit gave great insight into future opportunities and made me realise that higher universities are quite accessible with much effort and determination”.
Corin hopes to go onto study medicine after completing A levels at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College.
Woodham Academy provides various opportunities for students to learn about higher education and entry to university.
The programme of activities is aimed to raise students’ aspirations and has resulted in a high proportion of students progressing to university, including both Oxford and Cambridge.
