Dear Sir
It seems the cash-strapped County Council (the one that can’t afford to collect our garden rubbish) is to be lobbied by the Town Council to introduce a 20mph speed restriction around schools.
I’m guessing Vane Road is a fairly typical school. At throwing out time the roads outside the school are jam packed with waiting cars, many of which are parked illegally, or cars driving around (to the extent they are able to move) looking for a place to park.
Vane Road is grid-locked, as is the junction with Central Avenue, hindered by further parental traffic merging from Washington Crescent from Woodham Academy. It would be great to be able to drive at 20mph, but it usually isn’t possible to drive this quickly at such times – it would be quicker to walk (and that’s exactly what the kids should do)!
So, the County Council is to be lobbied by the Town Council to spend cash it doesn’t have on altering road layouts and putting up new signage to impose a speed limit that usually isn’t achievable because it can’t address the real issue of illegally parked cars blocking up the roads.
Am I the only one struggling to follow the logic here?
