Elsie worked as a machinist until their only child Graham was born. Graham is married to Julie and they have a daughter Joanna.
Norman and Elsie used to play golf and indoor bowls. They also enjoyed cruises and foreign holidays to the Canaries and Portugal. They have lived in Newton Aycliffe since 1990.
They had a Surprise Afternoon Tea on the Sunday before, with their family at Whitworth Hall, but were a bit overwhelmed when the Mayor and Newton News knocked on  their room door. Norman and Elsie hope to go to Scarborough for a few days this summer which is where they spent their honeymoon.
