Two soldiers from Newton Aycliffe recently completed the arduous four day Nijmegen Marches in Holland, also known as ‘The Walk of the World’.

The Four Day Marches is a multi-day walking performance event in which tens of thousands of hikers participate each year. People travel from all over the world to Nijmegen to walk for four days in the beautiful Waalstad region of the country.

Warrant Officer Class 2 Carl Milburn and Corporal Martin Redhead, both attached to the Light Dragoons based in Catterick Garrison, were part of an 11 strong team from the regiment, entered into the Military Division of the competition. The team performed superbly covering the 170km (106 mile) course in an excellent moving time of 32 hours carrying 10kg plus water and finishing with a complete team. After four days of walking, the team took part in a wonderful military procession along the Via Gladiola and received the well-deserved Four-Day Cross (Medal), a nationally recognised military honour in Holland.
