Celebrations were in full force at Rose Lodge Care Home in Newton Aycliffe as they celebrated the 100th birthday of one of its residents. Mary Heslop celebrated her milestone birthday with family, friends and everyone at Rose Lodge who enjoyed a special tea party along with live entertainment at the home.
Mary, born near Stanley, worked as a nurse, matron and midwife in many of the regional hospitals including Darlington Memorial Hospital. She is one of seven siblings, never married or had children but has lots of nieces and nephews who visit her regularly.
Mary started her day by opening presents and, of course, receiving her birthday card from the Queen. The party kicked off later that afternoon where Mary was presented with a special birthday cake and everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday’. A singer provided entertainment which had staff and residents dancing and singing along.
Care Manager Karen Frew-Mcgill, said: “It was a wonderful day for everyone involved. Mary had a fantastic time and the party was a lovely way for us to celebrate her birthday.
We have all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves this afternoon.”
